Background: Gin’s background is somewhat mysterious. He grew up in Rukongai on his own in a wasteland area. He rescued Matsumoto Rangiku from starvation when they were children and has some lingering attachment to her, though the depth of this attachment was not sufficient to stop Gin from pursuing his goals. Little else is known of his early background. While at the academy, Gin was a bit of a troublemaker, always bending the rules to his wishes whenever he could get away with it (and a few times when he couldn't). In spite of Gin's apparent laziness, he always did very well in his classes. Later on, Gin went on to serve as vice-captain under Aizen Sousuke, learning a great deal from the other man and becoming complicit in his plans. Then Gin went on to become the third division captain in Soul Society, with Kira Izuru as his vice-captain. Gin bided his time in this role until the time came for Aizen to break with Soul Society. Gin was instrumental in carrying out Aizen's plans to obtain the hougyoku. When the time came, he departed for Hueco Mundo along with Aizen and Tousen, leaving behind Kira Izuru and Matsumoto Rangiku. Gin has since taken his role as Aizen's second-in-command with pleasure, seeing new Arrancar created and amusing himself with various occupations whilst they all wait for the proper time to make a move.

Personality: In terms of appearance, Gin is rather striking. The first thing one might notice about him is his eyes, which are almost perpetually slitted, giving him a sly, fox-like appearance. When open, they appear to be an icy aqua color. His silver hair color is also unique. Gin is tall in stature, and his bony, lanky frame contributes to his somewhat eerie appearance. He has an Osaka accent. In spite of the fact that he is nearly constantly smiling, Gin is an somewhat unnerving most of the time. Regardless of the situation, he tends to act with a calm cheerfulness, which becomes particularly creepy at times when he is threatening, taunting, or on the verge of killing someone. Only in rare situations would Gin ever become serious and lose his smile or open his eyes. In terms of deeper personality, Gin is one of the most unfathomable characters in the series. He is mischevious, and he enjoys playing the troublemaker. Like the fox, he is sly and cunning. He is not averse to using the perceptions of others to his advantage. Gin is completely amoral in character, choosing to pursue his goals without any sort of moral or shinigami code holding him back. He can be sadistic, taking pleasure in the suffering of others. Personal attachments may influence Gin, though he would be loathe to be perceived as allowing those to stand in his way or letting them influence him too much. He has a continuing interest in seeking greater power by Aizen’s side, and that goal is what drives Gin. He believes that Aizen will ultimately succeed, and he knows that Aizen will reward his ongoing loyalty at that time. Aside from that, Gin’s other motivations are difficult for anyone to guess at all.

Abilities: His zanpakuto is named Shinsou (Shinsō). Its command phrase is “Ikorose, Shinsou” (translated “Shoot to kill, Shinsou”). In contrast to Gin’s own lanky appearance, Shinsou is shorter than a typical zanpakuto and resembles a Japanese short sword (wakizashi). Its hilt may even be a little longer than its blad, and it is curved at the tip. The hilt is wrapped and the hand guard loops out to curl around the blade in almost serpentine fashion. The Shikai form is one that causes the sword to take on more of Gin’s character, stretching outward at his command far and fast to cover great distances with speed, accuracy, and deadly force. At the moment the attack is initiated, Gin swings the zanpkuto, the zanpakuto’s blade glows white, and the blade then shoots outwards towards its intended target. This attack can strike multiple targets at once and can also shift direction to reach an opponent, extending as ar as Gin would wish. Avoiding the attack is nigh impossible, and only one with great strength could block an attack. Gin also is proficient in kidou and has a bankai.
